Restoring the Foundations – The Call for America to Return to God
In times of uncertainty and moral drift, the call to “Restore the Foundations” is paramount, especially for a nation like America. This sermon aims to explore the significance of returning to God and the morals and values of His Word. Through a series of scriptures, let us delve into why it’s crucial for the spiritual and moral reawakening of America.
2 Chronicles 7:14
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
This verse is a clarion call for repentance and restoration. It outlines a divine formula for healing: humility, prayer, seeking God, and repentance. America’s foundation can be revitalized through a collective turning back to God, recognizing His will, and realigning with His principles.
Psalm 11:3
“If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”
This rhetorical question underscores the importance of Biblical foundations for the stability and direction of a society. When moral and spiritual foundations erode, the righteous MUST ACT to restore them, lest society crumbles into chaos and godlessness.
Matthew 5:13-16
“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Believers are called to be influencers of society, preserving moral integrity and speaking truth. America needs Christians to embody these roles actively, promoting values that reflect God’s kingdom and drawing others to His transformative grace.
Proverbs 14:34
“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.”
National greatness is rooted in righteousness and the truth of God’s Holy Word. A return to biblical values—holiness, mercy, integrity—will elevate America’s moral stature and favor with God, whereas sin leads to disgrace, judgment, and decline.
Isaiah 58:12
“Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.”
This prophecy speaks to restoration not just of physical structures but of moral and spiritual foundations. America, too, can experience a rebuilding of what has been lost or eroded, becoming a society where God’s presence and principles are evident and active.
Joshua 24:15
“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve… But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Joshua’s declaration is a challenge for decision. America stands at a crossroads: to continue in demonic ways and secularism or choose to serve God. The choice to serve the Lord must begin in individual hearts and homes, influencing the nation from the ground up.
7: 2 Timothy 3:16-17
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
The Bible is foundational to knowing and doing God’s will, offering guidance for personal and national life. For America to return to God, His Word MUST BE the cornerstone of education, legislation, and public discourse.
Micah 6:8
“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
This verse distills God’s requirements into principles guiding personal and national ethics. A society that embraces Biblical values, mercy, and humility before God will reflect His character and blessings.
Acts 3:19
“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”
Repentance is the doorway to renewal. For America to experience a “time of refreshing,” there must be a collective turning away from sin and turning toward God, embracing His salvation and lordship.
Matthew 7:24-27
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
Jesus’ teaching about the wise and foolish builders serves as a metaphor for building our lives and society on the solid foundation of His teachings. For America to withstand the storms of moral and spiritual decline, it must root itself in the truth and principles of God’s Word. As individuals and as a nation, committing to live by Jesus’ teachings ensures stability and prosperity in the face of challenges.
“Restoring the Foundations” is not merely a call to nostalgia but a profound invitation to return to the core principles that foster life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in the light of God’s Word.
The scriptures presented show us the path back to God for America—a path of repentance, righteousness, and revival. Jesus is the only hope for America. We must return back to God.
As we reflect on these truths, let each of us consider our role in this pivotal moment in history. May we be the salt and light, diligently applying and living out these Biblical principles, influencing our spheres and thereby contributing to the moral and spiritual restoration of America.
Let us pray for God’s grace to empower us, His wisdom to guide us, and His love to unite us as we seek to restore the foundations of our faith and our nation. Amen.
