Planned Parenthood executive salaries increase; many pulling in over $500K

Many top executives at Planned Parenthood are earning six-figure salaries, with the average salary for CEOs of the organization’s regional affiliates being more than triple that of a typical nonprofit CEO, according to a new report.

The American Life League, a pro-life advocacy organization, released its “2025 Report on Planned Parenthood CEO Compensation” on Thursday. This report was based on research conducted from November 2024 through January 2025, primarily covering salaries and figures from fiscal year 2023 (October 2022 to September 2023). Additional data was drawn from fiscal year 2022.

The findings reveal that Planned Parenthood CEOs “continue to rank in the 98th percentile of U.S. wage earners.” From 2020 to 2023, the average compensation for affiliate CEOs rose by 11%, from over $317,000 to more than $352,000.

“The fact is that Planned Parenthood funnels its millions into political campaigns, abortion services, and its own CEOs,” the report states. “In the U.S., the average salary for a nonprofit CEO is around $117,000 per year. Planned Parenthood significantly exceeds that with an average annual CEO salary of $352,661. It is abundantly clear that Planned Parenthood’s priority is financial gain and redistributing that wealth to its own executives.”

Remnant News reached out to Planned Parenthood for a comment, but no response was received at the time.

According to the report, Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson is the highest-paid individual at the organization, earning a salary of $904,014.

Other highly compensated executives include:

Dawn Lugens, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer ($619,971)

Vickie Barrow-Klein, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer ($559,239)

Kimberly Custer, Executive Vice President of Federal Engagement & Impact ($545,347)

Among regional affiliate CEOs, Sue Dunlap of Planned Parenthood Los Angeles had the highest salary at $875,942, followed by Stacy Cross of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, earning $725,671.

Other regional CEOs earning over $500,000 annually include:

Jon Dunn (Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties) – $692,905

Ken Lambrecht (Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas) – $646,672

Darrah DiGiorgio Johnson (Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, Inc.) – $644,958

Gilda Gonzales (PP Northern California) – $617,707

Sheri Bonner (Planned Parenthood of Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley) – $609,797

Melaney Linton (Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, Inc.) – $503,133

Only a small number of Planned Parenthood affiliate CEOs earn less than $100,000 per year.

Katie Brown Xavios, National Director of the American Life League, expressed her frustration:
“Hundreds of millions of our tax dollars are handed over to the oligarchs at Planned Parenthood, and in turn, they end the lives of nearly half a million preborn Americans each year. And what’s their reward? Nonprofit CEOs funded by the government making nearly $1 million a year. That should enrage Americans.”

Katherine Van Dyke, the lead researcher for the report, highlighted that Planned Parenthood’s executive earnings “continue to grow each year” despite the organization experiencing a “financial decline.”

“The data collected in our CEO report is crucial because it shows that taxpayer money truly fuels Planned Parenthood’s earnings. The financial facts from their own reports do not align with the organization’s claims of financial hardship,” she stated.

“Now is the time for our nation’s leaders to carefully examine these numbers and cut Planned Parenthood off from government reimbursements or any form of appropriations. In other words, it’s time to defund this extremely wealthy and profitable abortion megacorporation.”

Planned Parenthood affiliates across the U.S. reported multimillion-dollar incomes. Planned Parenthood Los Angeles generated the highest revenue of any affiliate, reporting $155,081,369. Other affiliates with revenues exceeding $100 million include:

Planned Parenthood Mar Monte ($130,383,572)

Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, Inc. ($130,374,525)

Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties, Inc. ($106,549,598)

The report listed the top 20 affiliates by income, with the lowest being Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, Inc., which reported revenue of $36,295,084.

Additionally, the report noted that Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report cited $699.3 million in federal funding, which accounts for a significant 34% of the organization’s total annual revenue.

An op-ed published in The Wall Street Journal last year noted that those selected by then-President-elect Donald Trump to lead the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency planned to review cutting nearly $300 million in funding to progressive groups like Planned Parenthood.
