Fires Rage In North Carolina Where Hurricane Hit
As of January 30, 2025, multiple wildfires are actively burning in western North Carolina, particularly in McDowell County.
The most significant of these is the Crooked Creek Fire near Old Fort, which has consumed approximately 250 acres and is currently 55% contained. Evacuation orders for the area have been lifted as of this morning.
Additionally, two other fires—the Watson Place Fire and the North Fork Fire—are burning near Marion in McDowell County. The Watson Place Fire is located on US 221 North, while the North Fork Fire is in the Good Road area of the Woodlawn Community. As of now, there are no evacuation orders for these fires, but residents are advised to remain vigilant.
The Crooked Creek Fire was ignited by a tree falling on a power line, and gusty winds have exacerbated its spread. Multiple outbuildings have been destroyed, and one home has suffered damage; however, no homes have been completely destroyed, and no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Emergency management officials are urging residents to avoid outdoor burning due to the high winds and dry conditions contributing to the fire’s spread. Firefighters continue to work diligently to contain these fires and protect affected communities.
Please continue to pray for the residents in these areas.
